Ivakkak 2017 left at 9:30 a.m. this morning. It was a nice sunny day with light winds. The sea ice was very rough for the mushers – four dogs got loose after their ropes snapped from friction against the rough sea ice conditions. Willie Cain Jr. is still leading, George Kauki is presently in second place and Aisa Surusilak is in third place.
They traveled approximately 70 kilometers to the scheduled spot and are presently at Niaqurnak for the night. They will leave tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. Last night at Majuriarvik they had a show of Northern lights. Photos will be published when they arrive in Inukjuak, which is still scheduled for Friday.
70 Kilometers traveled on Day 2!
