When the Ivakkak 2007 participants awoke this morning, the bright blue sky that they have grown accustomed to over the past couple of days spent in Quaqtaq had been blown away by strong winds, gusting to no less than 80 km/h. Since the trail leaving Quaqtaq towards Kangiqsujuaq leads up on mountain plateaus, where the blowing snow had already turned into a whiteout, the race officials decided that it wasn’t safe for the dog teams to go just yet and postponed the start of the race until further notice, or at least until the weather improves. Unfortunately, the weather forecast for tomorrow doesn’t look much more promising. But only tomorrow will tell…
