An exceptionaly energetic crowd greeted and welcomed all dog teams as they arrived. At 2:10 PM #15 Peter Kiatainaq and his son Peter Jr were the first to arrive in Tasiujaq where the local council awarded the team $500.00 for being the lead mushers. A very energetic crowd met each team with cheerful applauds and were very vocal in welcoming them with high spirits. The weather and trail conditions were perfectly mild and sunny during the 73 kilometer trek. Willie Angutinguak from Aupaluk has replaced Eyitsiak Nungak, the support crew member who suffered a broken leg yesterday.

On behalf of the Ivakkak team condolences go out to Juani Nutaraaluk, who’s father passed away after a long illness this afternoon. Juani is the partner of Peter Ittukallak of Puvirnituq.

In the evening the community organized a feast hosted by the municipal council which was held at the school gymnasium. Prizes were drawn out specifically for the mushers, officials and support crew courtesy of Tasiujaq’s Hunter Support. The prizes consisted of a camp stove, fur, leather, heavy duty rope, a spotting device, fishing nets and a quality thermos. It was a very pleasant day in this friendly community of approximately 300.
